WHAT WILL CHANGE WITH THESE IMPROVEMENTS?
Increased Capacity & Efficiency
- The current boarding area is often overcrowded, with limited seating. The new design will comfortably seat 200 passengers to accommodate future growth.
- The upper-level drive will be removed, and airline and rental car counters will move to a larger first-floor lobby, reducing congestion and improving passenger flow.
- Security and boarding processes will be smoother and faster for everyone.
More Convenience & Better Amenities
- A semi-enclosed balcony with views of the airfield
- New restrooms, including an assisted restroom for passengers who need extra support
- A dedicated nursing mother’s space for privacy and comfort
- An enhanced snack area with more options for travelers
- Additional relaxation spaces, including a balcony overlooking the runways and new outdoor areas
Modernized Systems for Safety & Comfort
- Updated Security Access Control System to meet modern regulations and enhance safety
- New Fire Suppression System to comply with the latest building codes
- New Backup Generator for reliable power during outages
- New HVAC System for better air quality, energy efficiency, and overall comfort
- New Elevators to replace aging escalators and improve accessibility
- New Baggage Claim System to streamline luggage pickup
WHAT WILL THIS COST?
For the average Abilene homeowner*, these vital improvements will cost just $1.91 per month—less than a cup of coffee!
*Based on the average taxable homestead value of $170,391, per Taylor Central Appraisal District. The investment is $1.12 per month per $100,000 value.
HOW WILL IT BE FUNDED?
- $20 million in local funding from the special bond election
- Up to $50 million in federal grants
